Busta signs with Universal Motown

September 18, 2008 · Leave a Comment

First, of all HUGE FAN, if you didn’t already know.
…So a couple months ago (July), a rumor floated around that Busta Rhymes was getting dropped from Interscope because of some beef with Jimmy Iovine.

Well with time comes truth and it appears that this is sort of true. Busta is no longer with Interscope, but is signed to Universal Motown. And they are all branches off the same HUGE tree that is the Universal Music Group. Isn’t this confusing?! Busta’s move appears to be purely political in nature. His next album, Blessed, will still be released under Universal.

Dj Semtex’s Thoughts on this…

The bottom line is, to be successful in this HipHop game you have to move around, you have to work with different labels. Aside from Outkast and Lil Wayne, very few artists survive more than 10 years at the same label.
The fact that Busta has found a new home is good, but is testament to the fact that he still has the ability to cook up that fire, that makes your speakers pound!

Ok, I agree on some levels. it is rare to stay on the same label for more than a few years. And Busta is the shit. The rap game is like Major League [insert sport here]. But he’s really on the same label…
And secondly, while the chart is cool a bunch of the colors look the same. I know I’m being picky but that’s just the way I am. Someone has to do it!

How to be Successful in the Music Industry (Part One)

April 29, 2008 · 1 Comment

  1. CALL PEOPLE BACK ASAP!!!!

You have no idea how many people do not return phone calls in a prompt manner(at major record labels, small labels, websites, etc. etc.) .

I’ve had personal experience with a certain nationally distributed label that would not return my phone calls for WEEKS after I had sat down with them in regards to working for them. So nearly a month after speaking with them and getting a verbal confirmation (and a handshake) that everything was in order… Nothin

Its really funny actually… I was supposed to help them get organized! :-D But you cannot help people that do not want your help.

PS- I would link you to their website, but wait! They don’t have one. Keep in mind this is a label that is nationally distributed with BET artist(s). No names. Enough Ranting

PPS- For more Ethical observations about the music industry please visit The Ethical Expression. Its well written with thought provoking “Fortune Cookies.” Good shit.
