The Case for Hiphop and Rock (pt. 1)

October 17, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Culture War or Collaboration?
5 years ago a rocker would not get caught dead in a fitted new era cap.
5 years ago a hiphopper would not get caught dead in tight fitting Levis.
While this is simply fashion, its pretty much representative of the soundscape that exists today. It also hints at what could become.
Who are some of the pioneers? Who is doing the best collabos? What are the classic songs?
Lets take a brief look at Rap/Rock collaborations over history via youtube.
Today:
Jay Z and Chris Martin – Lost Remix

Kanye West and Chris Martin – Homecoming

Some band from Upstate NY -Gym Class something something…

90’s\
Ashamed to say it, but Limp Bizkit is part of all this too…

Politics + Great band + angry militant lead singer/MC = Rage

Politics + great band + angry militant lead singer/MC = Public Enemy/Anthrax

80’s
Faith No More – Epic

Beastie Boys take on 80’s hair bands, dumb promoters, and a lot of beer

Emeritus will Be Scarface’s last album

September 30, 2008 · Leave a Comment

However, he kept the r-word out of the discussion. “I’m not gonna say that. I’m gonna say Scarface, Emeritus. As time goes on, you will understand it,” he said.

Emeritus means a Retired professor or bishop!
“Emeritus does not imply that the person must be retired from all duties of his or her previous title, nor does it imply that the person is engaged in the duties of his or her previous title.”

With that said, Scarface made it clear that this doesn’t mean retirement for one of the south’s most honored emcees as he relayed a list of collaborations that would keep him interested in tearing up the mic. “Only thing that’s gonna bring me back [is] if I do an album with somebody. Me, [Ice] Cube and Nas do something, or me and Jigga and Beans do something. Or me and Bun B do a duo. It’s gotta be a trio or duo.”

Any one of these duo/trios would be sooooo amazing!
Scarface is one of the best to ever do it. Top 5 out of the south.

Stargate + Jay Z = StarRoc?

September 18, 2008 · 1 Comment

So everyone’s favorite Norwegian platinum production team is teaming up with Hov to create a label called StarRoc.
But I’m confused- Will this just be a production label? How will it actually operate? And what about Jay’s deal with Live Nation AKA RocNation? And what about Rockwell?! When do I get my deal?
Just kidding… but seriously, I need some more details. Cuz this is cool and all (giant producers work with giant artist to create ______ label), but what exactly is the deal?

Look at that Discography!!!!
